NEWLY PUBLISHED FRUS CHAPTERS & DECLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS

The Office of the Historian published four new Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) chapters on Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela from 1981-1988. Additionally, the Office of the Historian published newly declassified documents that are available on FOIA.state.gov.

WHA 2027 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The World History Association (WHA) invites submissions from scholars and educators interested in contributing to discussions about inflection points in world history. The WHA welcomes proposals for full panels, roundtables, workshop sessions, individual papers, and co-authored works showcasing cooperation across historical areas of expertise or between disciplines. DECLASSIFIED STATE DEPARTMENT DOCUMENTS

The OH recently published just under 1,000 pages of newly declassified documents on FOIA.State.Gov. Potential topics of interest include Clinton-Yeltsin meetings, George W. Bush’s initial meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, NATO enlargement, situation reports (SitReps) in the immediate aftermath of the Pan Am 103 bombing, reactions to the Dalai Lama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, and U.S. policy on Tibet (1989-1990).

GLOBAL SCRIPTS POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

2026-27 CWAR Institute Graduate Fellowship

For the 2026-27 cohort year, CWAR seeks applicants whose work promises to make an original contribution to Cold War historical scholarship, who have an interest in collaborative research and learning Cold War research methods, and who have a research agenda that necessitates a visit to the archives that the program will visit in the summer. 

Sustaining NARA Facilities

SHAFR endorsed the Organization of American Historians' (OAH) letter to the acting archivist of the United States to reconsider the National Archives and Records Administration's decision to close its regional archival facilities in Chicago and San Bruno. To learn more about the OAH's requests, the value of these regional archives and their irreplaceable collections, and the impact of these closures on the public, please read the OAH's letter of concern.

Protecting Access to Unclassified Records

SHAFR is a signatory to a letter sent to the Department of Defense strongly opposing its proposal to exempt controlled unclassified information (CUI) from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Preserving Congressional Records

SHAFR signed a letter calling on the U.S. House Appropriators to preserve, archive, and as appropriate make available reports by the Surveys & Investigations staff of the House Appropriations Committee.
