About Us
In 1965, Joseph P. O'Grady sought to foster a community for historians of American foreign relations. Two years later, his vision came to fruition with the establishment of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR). Since then, SHAFR has been dedicated to building a supportive community and providing an enriching environment for its members to pursue their scholarly interests, collaborate, disseminate their research, and contribute to the field of diplomatic history.
Our Mission
SHAFR is dedicated to the scholarly study of the history of American foreign relations. As such, it promotes "The study, advancement and dissemination of a knowledge of American Foreign Relations" through the sponsorship of research, annual meetings, and publications. SHAFR.org is an online platform for showcasing the activities of the society and an online resource for its members.
