JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides quality metadata for digital historical records published on FamilySearch platforms to facilitate patron research. 
  • May use international metadata standards to perform original cataloging for digitally born assets.
  • Coordinates with a distributed and local cross-functional workforce.
  • Completes assigned parts of FamilySearch digital asset inventory management. 
  • May provide genealogical expertise regarding standard localities. Researches localities and their history.
  • Analyzes, investigates, and resolves data-related inquiries.
  • Works with or trains volunteers and missionaries on assigned tasks.  Provides ongoing feedback.
  • Reviews, audits, and certifies data quality in their assigned area or specified project or operation.
  • Supports initiatives and areas by troubleshooting, answering inquiries, resolving issues, etc.
  • Makes daily decisions independently regarding 1) operation or production and 2) collaboration, evaluation, and dissemination of information. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 3+ years of professional work experience OR equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Professional communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to describe complex topics.
  • Ability to complete detailed work with accuracy and complete projects, operations, and processes on time.
  • Capability to use and follow documented processes and training materials
  • Dependent on assignment, must meet required language skills
  • Dependent on assignment, must have knowledge of local records
  • Able to read, write, and speak French, Portuguese, or other relevant languages. 
  • Ability to organize and monitor projects with a distributed workforce (employees and volunteers working and serving in Africa).
  • Ability to train and communicate (written and verbal) with a distributed workforce (employees and volunteers working and serving in Africa).
  • Skilled in the use of standard desktop software including Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with the Family History Library Catalog and FamilySearch services.
  • PREFERRED: Proficiency in one or more non-English languages
